Small act, big impact

We missed our clients during the COVID lockdown. While we did our best to stay connected—regular phone calls, check-ins, and offering support remotely—there’s simply no replacement for being together in person. We missed sitting down over a cup of tea, hearing their stories, sharing laughter, and being able to help them with life’s little details face to face.

One client, in particular, stands out in our hearts. Just before the lockdown began, she had asked us to help her organise a box of old photographs she had tucked away. When we were finally able to sit with her again, the moment was truly special. As we carefully laid out the photographs, one by one, her eyes lit up with recognition and joy. With each picture came a wave of memories—family gatherings, holidays, old friends—and her face glowed as those cherished moments returned to her.

What made it even more moving was that this client lives with a brain injury that significantly affects her memory. For her, these photos weren’t just images—they were keys that unlocked parts of her past she feared might be lost forever. Watching her remember, reconnect, and relive those moments was a privilege beyond words.

She told us, with tears in her eyes, that she couldn’t have done it without us. But the truth is, it was our absolute pleasure. Being able to support her in such a meaningful way reminded us of why we do what we do—and just how powerful compassion, patience, and presence can be.
