From Struggle to Support: How Enable and Thrive Transformed Amanda’s* Life

When Amanda* was referred to Enable and Thrive in early 2023, her life was spiralling. With no carers and no nearby family support, she was living in a severely cluttered flat, struggling to manage daily tasks, and becoming increasingly vulnerable.

Unmarried and having lost her two brothers, Amanda* relied on a nephew who lived far away and found it difficult to keep up with her growing needs. The signs of self neglect were worrying: stained carpets from repeated accidents, fire risks due to dozing off while cooking, and untreated health issues.

Then everything changed.

Enable and Thrive stepped in with compassionate, practical, and consistent support. We built a circle of care around Amanda*, starting with regular carers and a professional cleaner to restore dignity and order to her home. A new fridge was installed, fresh carpets laid, and regular deliveries were put in place to ensure she received hot meals safely every day.

We coordinated appointments with district nurses, a chiropodist, and even arranged a home dental visit. Her bed linen is now regularly dry-cleaned, her TV is fixed, and incontinence products arriving on a regular basis. With Enable and Thrive’s help, Amanda* was also granted a council tax disregard, lightening the financial load.

One of our proudest achievements was locating the resting place of her beloved mother, something Amanda* had been searching for over a decade.

Most touching of all, Amanda* has formed a warm and trusting bond with her regular carer. Her home is now calm, clean, and safe. Her health is managed, her spirit is lifted, and her life has been truly transformed.
