Dementia Funding Announcement

£6.2m boost for dementia innovation and early diagnosis

At Enable and Thrive Ltd, we’re passionate about supporting people living with dementia and helping them access the right care and guidance when they need it most.

That’s why we’re delighted to share some fantastic news announced by Alzheimer’s Society, highlighting two major new funding commitments that will help speed up dementia diagnosis and improve quality of life for those affected.

New funding streams to accelerate diagnosis and care

The first announcement is a £5 million investment through the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology’s “Dementia Challenge”, which aims to develop new solutions that could dramatically increase the number of people receiving a timely formal diagnosis.

Innovations being explored include:

  • Blood tests that detect the build-up of proteins associated with dementia

  • Saliva analysis that identifies early hormone changes linked to memory decline, possibly even before symptoms appear

Alongside this, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has committed £1.2 million to two groundbreaking projects in digital cognitive assessment.

These include:

  • Kneu Health, developing smartphone-based cognitive assessment technology that combines digital testing with biomarker analysis for earlier, more accurate diagnosis

  • The Food for the Brain Foundation, creating a web-based test assessing key brain functions such as thinking speed, memory, recognition, and decision-making

Why this matters

According to Alzheimer’s Society, more than a third of people living with dementia remain undiagnosed, leaving many without access to vital treatment, support, and planning opportunities.

These funding initiatives aim to change that, using cutting-edge science and digital innovation to make early, accurate diagnosis more accessible than ever before.

What this means for our clients and community

For our lovely clients and everyone affected by dementia, this is a hugely positive step forward. Advancements like these bring hope for:

  • Earlier and clearer diagnosis

  • Better access to support and treatment

  • Improved planning and quality of life for individuals and families

Looking ahead

Research and technology are creating real opportunities to transform dementia diagnosis and care. At Enable and Thrive Ltd, we’re proud to champion these developments and continue supporting our clients through every stage of their journey, ensuring everyone affected by dementia receives the understanding, care, and dignity they deserve.
